goodbye

In goodbye, Nitsan Margaliot embarks on a journey to encounter his grandfather, whom he never met. His grandfather, who was born in Chemnitz in 1920 under the name Adolf and fled to Palestine-Israel at the age of 18 during the Holocaust. His grandfather, who changed his name to Abraham.

Nitsan's middle name is Avraham, in memory of him. With the name, he carries the past wherever he goes. In his dance piece, Margaliot poses the question, how he can integrate himself with his weighted past as a person and artist in the present - and reposition himself in the country from which his grandfather fled at the time. How to deal with the story of flight and survival that continues to shape his family today?

goodbye is a ceremony in near darkness. By bringing together choreographic materials, poetic narratives, smells, and sound installations, the piece transforms the tense past into processing, forgiving, and rediscovering.
goodbye is a solo work by dancer and choreographer Nitsan Margaliot in collaboration with scent artist Klara Ravat and sound artist Gal Hochberg.
